I have only just seen that Mr. Edis has passed away.
I was a pupil at The Kings School, Harrow between 1951 and 1956 when Mr. Edis was teaching. Being more interested in sport than academic subjects, I was indebted to Mr. Edis for his coaching at particularly cricket a love that he instilled in me that has lasted all my life. I recall on one occasion he was umpiring when I was bowling when the ball slipped out of my hand and landed on his head. He looked at me and said ‘Locke, on this occasion I will treat that as an accident, but should it happen again there will be dire consequences’. A wonderful way to handle the situation.
Mr Edis was always the most popular and respected of Masters and will always be remembered for his caring attitude.
I will always remember him with great fondness.
